Kato’s Saikyo-yaki is great as I heard, and sashimi, too.
Speaking of eating sashimi at Tsukiji Market, I remember these three shops all the same,
*Yonehana
*Takahashi
*Kato
But Takahashi isn’t open at 7 a.m. yet.
Yonehana serve assorted sashimi or tuna only.
So, we went to Kato after a long absence.
When I ate at Kato last time, it’s the best season of Cherry salmon! Over one year have passed!

My target was Horse mackerel caught by fishing pole tataki set (つりあじタタキ定食, 1400 yen).
Horse mackerel is at their best just now !
The chef cooked fresh horse mackerel after we ordered. It should be great !!!
So fresh.
It was really tasty !!!
There are mainly two tools of catching fishes. By wide net, and by fishing pole.
Kato says this horse mackerel was caught by fishing pole on the menu.
It is generally said that fishes caught by fishing pole is better than by wide net in those tastes.
The reason is,,, fishes struggle in the net intensely and those get injured.
Well, first of all, I can’t taste the difference between fishes caught by net and fishing pole 😛
Also assorted sashimi set have horse mackerel, but that’s vinegared one.
My friend ordered a grilled splendid alfonsino marinated with saikyo-miso (金目鯛の西京焼き, 1450 yen) (without rice :P)
Its meat was soft and had much flavor of saikyo-miso.
Not only splendid alfonsino, but also salmon, American butterfish, Spanish mackerel etc… they serve fresh fishes of every seasons with saikyo-miso.
This saikyo-miso is great. They sell the saikyo-miso only.
Saikyo-miso is Kyoto-style sweet white bean paste.
He also ordered bonito sashimi (かつお刺身, 1300 yen) 😛
Those slices of bonito were fresh, too.
By the way, Kato is very popular as deep fried horse mackerel.
But they don’t serve at warm season. They serve deep fried horse mackerel during only deep fried oysters season. And limited weekdays.
The waitress said to us, “We’ll start to serve deep fried horse mackerel in October :)”
… !!!!! The best season will be already passed !!!!!
After got out of Kato, we had a coffee at Yonemoto Coffee Shinten.
Yonemoto has changed a bit. There was much tables and chairs than last time.
Mine was Cafe Latte and my friend’s Caramel latte 🙂
Caramel latte (right) looks cute.
