Funabashi : Toshikoshi soba at Kochian (虎智庵)

Almost all soba restaurants are fully packed in December 31st.

We have a custom of eating soba last day of year. It is called “Toshikoshi-soba”
And I ate the toshikoshi-soba at home last year, but this year I ate at this restaurant.

大みそかなので張り切って45分前に到着。当然一番のり!

We thought that the restaurant would have too much guests because it was the end of the year, so we arrived at the restaurant 45 minutes before the restaurant’s opening time.
Of course, we were first comer 😛
And about 5 minutes later, second group came.

Well, even if we were at the restaurant 10 minutes before the opening time , we could take our seats easily:P

There was only 4 soba on the menus at the end of the year lunchtime.

大みそかのランチメニューは4種類(ノ∀`) 温かいおそばはありませんでした。

Seiro (Cold soba)
Seiro with Oroshi (Cold soba with grated daikon radish)
Seiro with Vegetable tempura
Seiro with tempura

There was no warm soba 🙁

I wanted to eat tempura, so I ordered a Seiro with tempura (天せいろ, 2000 yen).
We waited over watching such a cute ornaments and chef’s finger works.

At first, our tempura came.

まず、天麩羅がきました。海老天2本に、紫芋と、紫人参。紫人参て初めて聞いたな(`・ω・´)

This was the first time to see and eat purple carrot. I like this bitterness very much 😀

After that our seiro came. This soba came from Iiyama in Nagano.

そのあとで、せいろが(*´д`*) 塩で食べるのが一番おいしかったな。

There was a paper written about the ways of eating the soba on the table.
1. At first, eat without anything
2.With salt
3.With soba soup
The paper also said there is no condiments because the chef want guests tasting his soba clearly. Umm. I wanted even only green onions…

最後はもちろんそば湯(`・ω・´)

And night, I ate toshikoshi-soba again at night. With my mother. Seiro with ducks meat.Do you think this is my own making ? 🙂
