Since it had been a while since my last visit to Taipei, I prioritized revisiting my favorite spots over exploring new ones. One of those favorites is A Cheng Goose (阿城鵝肉). Since being featured in the Michelin Guide, it’s become quite popular, with long lines now a common sight. They even opened a second branch just across from the main store.
This time, I visited the A Cheng Goose – Jilin 2nd Branch (阿城鵝肉 吉林二店). The main store wasn’t open—perhaps it closes for a mid-afternoon break, as I went around 2:30 PM on a weekday. Luckily, the second branch is open all day.

At the entrance, you’ll find a ticket machine. Simply enter the number of people and press the red button. Menus and order forms are available, so you can fill them out while you wait. If you’re getting foods to go, just fill out the order form and hand it to the staff inside.

When your number appears on the digital board above, show your ticket to the staff and head in. Dining time is limited to 90 minutes. If you prefer to secure a time, you can also book a table on Open Table.

I forgot to take a photo of the current menu and order sheet, so here’s one from my 2020 visit to the main store. The format is unchanged, but prices have increased slightly:
*Meat and sides: +20 TWD
*Noodles/Rice: +5 TWD
*Soups: +10 TWD
Prices mentioned in this post reflect the current rates.

Though I didn’t order it this time, I also recommend the sweet potato greens (地瓜菜). You’ll find more about it in my original post.
The interior is pretty much the same as the main branch. You can watch the staff slicing goose right inside the restaurant.

There are two floors. I was seated on the first floor, which had tables for two and four. Condiments and drinks (including beer) are self-serve from a fridge near the stairs.

As you can see, I went a little overboard with the garlic… By the way, the beer was 110 TWD.

No introduction needed—it’s what everyone comes for! You can usually choose between breast (前半段) or thigh (後半段), but the price is the same. Since I wasn’t super hungry this time, I went with the smaller 1–2 person portion for 220 TWD. Even the breast meat was incredibly juicy thanks to the rich layer of fat under the skin. If I were hungrier, I could’ve easily gone for the 300 TWD portion!

It pairs perfectly with shredded ginger, garlic, and doubanjiang (fermented chili bean paste). Honestly, this restaurant alone is reason enough to visit Taiwan.

Last time I had the goose intestine soup (鵝腸湯), but I wasn’t a fan of the broth. This time, I tried the offal soup (下水湯, 70TWD), which features mostly liver. It had a different flavor entirely and was much easier to drink. I even finished the whole bowl!

The soup has a slight vinegar tang, and I added a bit of garlic and sauce to change up the flavor. It’s quite a generous portion, though—probably best shared between two. My stomach was full to the brim!
