I went to Xiangmanyuan (香満園), but for some reason, it wasn’t open. So I gave up and strolled over to Shiji Doujiang Dawang (世紀豆漿大王), which is just nearby. It had been about 10 years since my last visit. I think I mistook it for another place back then (lol). It’s a popular spot among locals, and there was a constant stream of customers this time too. By the way, there are several restaurants with the same name in Taipei. The one I visited is located right in front of Shuanglian Station.

Here’s the menu. They have a English and Japanese menu, but it’s tucked away in the back and won’t be offered unless you ask. That said, the menu mainly consists of the classic Taiwanese breakfast items, so you should be fine.

The dine-in area is in the back. But first, you order and pay. The line is the same for both dine-in and to-go. After receiving your food, head to the seating area.

This is the iconic Taiwanese breakfast item. I absolutely love it. Xian Doujiang is like a savory tofu pudding made from soy milk. It contains green onions, fried dough sticks (youtiao), and other toppings. If you like chawanmushi (Japanese savory egg custard), you’ll probably enjoy this.

The texture varies by shop—here, it’s quite loose. Salty and tasty, with crunchy green onions. I recommend ordering extra youtiao to dip in the soy milk—it’s delicious!

I also ordered Danbing, another favorite of mine. Unfortunately, they don’t have a cheese version here (doesn’t even seem like they offer cheese at all), so it’s a pretty simple danbing. It’s a crepe made with a thin egg omelet. Crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The sauce served with it is sweet—like honey. I’m not a big fan of sweet sauces on savory food, so I was glad they didn’t pour too much. They also provide a spicy sauce, which I used to balance it out.

I really need to learn how to say “No sweet sauce, please” in Chinese…
